Meeting 18

At Meeting 18 we read the Art Monthly response to our comments on Dan Miller’s piece ‘Against Political Art’, and it struck us that actually, his response mirrors our own concerns almost exactly. With this in mind, we agreed to contact him in order to suggest a further dialogue around these shared concerns.

We then had a roundup of ongoing work: It was noted that new sections and drafts for the Serpica Naro novel have been uploaded. Broadside 3 is done, but needs checking and putting to the membership list for final approval. AMM/Unkant are going to republish ‘The State of Scripts’ in their journal/reader ‘Gruntwork’. There are also two sets of Precarious Passages in production. Much longer term, we are also aiming for a collected MLW ‘manifesto’ book after May 2015, bearing in mind the Scottish devolution vote and the General Election.

The rest of the meeting concerned future funding for MLW. It was suggested that we should look at Arts Council funding, the possibility of Rosa Luxemburg foundation money, and put a call out for any other ideas or sources of finance.

We need to formalise the planned (but now stalled) event and ask for further dates in November and December at The Castle, and we need to send Castlefield Gallery an email asking them how our application for space is proceeding. This is the agenda.
